Custom Framing & Matting

Framing
For the many artists who work outside of standard styles and sizes, properly designed custom framing can make a real difference in sales appeal. Custom framing doesn't have to be synonymous with expensive, but it should visually capture a piece by enhancing its attributes while simultaneously downplaying its weaknesses. Isn't this the reason why someone would purchase a tailor-made suit of clothes? When a body, or in this case a piece of art, doesn't fit the standard mold, a custom fit might be the right solution. At Hartford Fine Art, our design experts are familiar with marketing artwork and know the current display trends, colors, and designs that can attract the largest market segment to your work.

For those whose work is more contemporary and cutting edge, we enjoy using our knowledge of non-traditional framing materials to design a unique presentation. If your work calls for something out of the ordinary, or you have ideas you would like use to explore, let us know. We look forward to working with you.

Matting
Most types of paper borne art require some sort of matting. A mat's purpose is threefold:

  • to keep the picture glazing off the surface of the art,
  • to build a space kbetween the work's surface and glazing that allows air to circulate, and
  • to serve as a visual resting place for a viewer's eye
Today's mats come in varied colors, textures, and thickness. Hartford Fine Art & Framing offers conservation quality gallery matting in standartd sizes as well as blank mats for those of you who like to cut your own mats. Since most professional artists require non-standard sizes, we will cut mats to your specifications in the quantities that you require – from one to thousands!
